ARCA ETICHETTE & CYCLE4GREEN: A PERFECT CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Despite important technological advances and our continuous drive towards innovation in machines and processes, there are wastes that are currently difficult or impossible to reduce. In the average of our industry waste is estimated to be about 60% of the volume of the initial purchased material (start-ups, printing errors, cutting edges, matrix waste, liner…). The liner (the silicon paper support of the labels) represents more than 60% of the waste produced (38% of the volume of the entire initial roll).
A partnership for the environment
Sensitive to environmental issues, Arca Etichette has signed a partnership with Cycle4green, a Finnish company specialized in recycling release paper (liner). Our production lines have been redesigned to collect and package this waste according to precise instructions from our partner, that will take care of its pick-up and its transport to Lenzing Papier, an Austrian paper mill able to recycle this waste liner.
Concrete results
Every year Cycle4green and Lenzing Papier hand out an environmental certificate to their partners, where they certify the quantity of collected and recycled material and the beneficial impact that this virtuous process has had on the environment. In 2023 Arca Etichette recycled 13,1 tons of liner, equivalent to a reduction of 25 tons in CO2 emissions. A great result that we are going to improve in the current year!

100% GREEN ENERGY FROM RENEWABLE RESOURCES
Have you ever thought about how much energy costs? Energy bill entries, of course, are the first things that come to everyone’s mind, but… how much does it really cost to produce, deliver and use energy? The impact on the environment is a hardly considered factor. What are we willing to give up in order to have the energy we need in our daily lives?
ONE STEP AT A TIME, IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
We at Arca Etichette believe that sustainability is the cornerstone for building our future: it is now unthinkable to live, move and work to the detriment of the environment. Arca has always shared these values and today we confirm it with an important choice: our offices are now powered by clean energy.
Arca Etichette has a partnership on the subject of green energy with Lifegate, a company that offers innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
For some years, Lifegate has allowed us to use 100% Italian Green Energy from Renewable Sources, with Zero Impact.
It means reducing the polluting impact of the energy system and preserving environmental resources.
Shaping a climate-friendly future
To do this we need to combine our vision, our strength and our ambition.

BEE MY FUTURE - A NEW HOPE FOR HONEYBEES AND THE WORLD
Even this year, Arca joined with great enthusiasm a LifeGate’s project called “Bee My Future”.
Concretely, Arca has “adopted” an entire beehive. Our bees are now raised in an urban context within the province of Milan, following the guiding principles of organic farming. Our sponsorship will also provide the beekeeper with all the necessary equipment to operate in complete safety and efficiency, guaranteeing well-being and prosperity to our industrious friends.
“If the bee disappears from the surface of the Earth, man would have no more than four years left to live.”
(Albert Einstein)
A light at the end of the tunnel
This phenomenon has shown some alarming numbers. In 2015-2016 alone the U.S.A. witnessed peaks at 45% of bee die-off in their hives. After years of uncertainty, various international associations and commissions seem to have found the responsible for this massacre. According to their findings, some specific pesticides are seriously harmful to the health of bees. In recent times several countries (including the entire European Union) have prohibited the sale and use of these pesticides. This discovery and the corrective actions undertaken are helping the honeybee population to recover, but it’s still a long way to go, as the turnaround in agricultural processes and institutions has just begun.

ZEROCO2 AND ARCA ETICHETTE FOR MARINE REFORESTATION
Arca Etichette continues with its commitment to the environment, this time taking care of the seas.
Oceans are important CO2 storage sites. Each year they absorb about 30% of the carbon dioxide we produce, making an essential contribution to limiting global warming.
Even the sea has its forests inhabited by special types of plants and we, at Arca, have contributed to planting Posidonia in Sardinia together with ZeroCo2.
Posidonia oceanica is the most important marine plant for the coastal ecological balance of the Mediterranean Sea; it is considered among the most important marine ecosystems, both in terms of ecology and biodiversity, hosting about 20-25% of all species living in the Mediterranean Sea.
Its leaves are essential for the process of chlorophyll photosynthesis, through which Posidonia, also known as “the lung of the Mediterranean”, produces oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide.
It is also important in coastal dynamics, as it counteracts gradual silting up, stabilizes sediments, protects the coastline from erosion by consolidating the seabed and attenuates storm surges and waves through the oscillatory movement of its leaves.
To summarize, among the main ecosystem services that Posidonia offers:
- Biodiversity Center
- Carbon storage (Blue carbon)
- It produces biomass

IT IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE TO TALK ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY AND SAFEGUARDING THE ENVIRONMENT BY EXCLUDING THE OCEAN
Today, Posidonia colonies are among the most threatened ecosystems on earth.
Available estimates indicate that between 13% and 50% of the areal extension has been lost and that the remaining grasslands have drastically decreased the density of shoots.
This loss is mainly due to anthropological environmental disturbances: trawling, indiscriminate anchoring on seagrass, over-exploitation of the seabed, physical changes, pollution, introduction of non-native species and climate change.
Given the criticality that affects us ever more closely, Arca Etichette has therefore married the ZeroCo2 initiative in partnership with Worldrise which has launched a first regeneration project of the Posidonia meadows in Golfo Aranci, Sardinia.
OUR GREEN HEART FOREST
Arca Etichette recognizes the Environment as an essential function for the peaceful and livable permanence of humanity on the Planet.
On the occasion of the World Environment Day 2021, Arca Etichette has decided to continue its journey towards a more sustainable business, creating a real forest.
There are still many goals to be achieved, but today, as a Benefit Corporation and soon as a B Corp™, we decide to plant 114 trees, one for each year of life of the group’s companies, with the aim of enlarging our “GREEN HEART” forest thanks to new successes to celebrate with you.

We support FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano
This year, Arca Etichette Spa has decided to support FAI – Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano (the National Trust for Italy) by joining the Corporate Golden Donor corporate membership program.
Alongside FAI we want to implement a major protection project that is also an ambitious cultural challenge: to make Italy a more beautiful place to live, work and bring up our children.
The environmental and cultural patrimony that FAI safeguards and promotes is a unique heritage and fundamental resource in which we must invest in order to revive, develop and promote our wonderful country. Thanks to its numerous supporters – companies and private citizens alike – FAI has been protecting and managing 70 heritage sites in Italy for over 50 years. Sites of historic, artistic and environmental importance have been saved from neglect, restored, protected and opened to the public.
Each day FAI is committed to protecting and giving everyone access to these splendid gems of art, nature and culture scattered throughout the countryside, in cities and around the coastline of our country; to educating and raising awareness among the people of the need to respect and care for art and nature, and to being the spokesperson for the expectations of civil society, supervising and intervening proactively across the country.
We want a more protected beautiful Italy. We work with FAI to build it.
